Unleash your Rage

cyclingimages

The second half of 2009 continues to be an exciting year for Raging Dragons. We've had an invaluable influx of great new characters we've received into the fold.

Our brand new boat arrived in July and an eye dotting Ceremony was held to welcome the RED LOTUS (as we've named her). Her maiden voyage was held in conjunction with the helming course which saw 6 of our crew members qualify as new BDA Helms.

Our most exciting news to date is the launch of a new partnership with Sun Lik Beer to be held at PRESTON on the 26th of July. Our new Sun Lik Beer boat will be racing for the first time and we simply can't wait to launch her on her maiden race.

Take a moment to review our races this season in our EVENTS section.

Check out our new MEDIA section.

Highlights for 2008 year include Vogalonga - Venice, Royal Albert Docks and The Great River Race where we raised over £2500 for the Ben Herring Trust.

As ever, we value all feedback so email info@ragingdragons.co.uk with your words. Take a look at what we do and if it takes your fancy, try us - JOINING

Eye Dotting Ceremony

Eye Dotting Ceremony

Raging Dragons hosted an eye Dotting Ceremony for our First Dragon Head, for the Dragon Boat. The Eyes were Given life by Our Kind Sponsors Sun Lik Beer.

The Eye Dotting Ceremony

Chinese Emperors of old called themselves ‘Dragons.’ Dragon boats have good spirits dedicated to providing enjoyment for the racers. Before the (season's) races commence a Taoist Priest will offer prayers to the spirits of the dragon boats.

The priest then makes offerings of fruit, jasmine tea, alcohol and rice. These offerings appease the spirits of the water and calm them in preparation for the racing ahead. If that was not done, legend has it that the Water Gods would clash with the Dragon spirits of the boats, with potentially disastrous consequences.

Also offered at this time is symbolic money, bank notes from the Bank of Hell. The smoke from these notes goes to Heaven and appeases the Gods to ensure safety and good racing. He will also throw some notes on to the water for the Sea Gods. Having warded off evil spirits with his earlier prayers, the priest can now bring the dragon boats to life and make them strong for the racing ahead.

Finally, having successfully resuscitated the ‘dragons,’ the priest offers thanks to heaven and the Gods, paving the way for future successful races.
